Ultimate Guide to Pack Books for Moving
All book lovers
know the pain and frustration of a bent cover, a ripped page, or a smushed book
jacket. However, these things are inevitable when you are moving from one house
to the next. They are one of the heaviest items in the house. And keep in mind
that moving companies charges according to the weight most of the time. So it
is a good idea to pack all of your books in the right way when you are moving.
We have compiled a guide below to help you safely pack and transport your books
without breaking the bank.
Thin your book collection
If you are
moving long-distance, or have hired movers who are charging by weight, make
sure to go through your book collection carefully and determine what to keep
and what you don’t need anymore. Heavy hardcovers and even paperback can add a
lot of costs. So this is the best time to separate them based on ‘must-have’
and ‘done with that’ titles. Identify
the books that you are not likely to read again, then find a good destination for
them. Second-hand stores, church and school libraries, and neighborhood lending
libraries can be the best place for your old books.
Choose the perfect boxes
Once you have
selected the right books, buy or scrounge some strong, medium-sized cardboard
boxes. Ensure that they can hold the weight of the book as many new boxes are
rated for the weight. If you are opting for used boxes, make sure that they are
not damp. Invest in some sturdy tape to seal the box and a marker to label
them.
Prepare the boxes for packing
If you buy new
packing boxes, you will require preparing them. Make sure to seal the bottom
well with the double layer of good quality tape all over the seams. When you
are sealing the flap, make sure to continue sticking the tape halfway up the
sides of the boxes. If you're using a recycled box, tape the bottom three times
to ensure a strong hold.
Pack hardcover books
Pack hardcover
books inside the box by placing them upright against the box’s side in the same
way you place them on the shelf. The books should fit in the box so perfectly
that they do not get damaged when they are removed from the box. If needed,
cover the valuable books by wrapping them in packing paper individually before
placing them in the box.
Pack paperbacks books
Pack usual
paperback books in a flat stack, or set them in the spine first so that the
paper edges face up. Packing them with paper edges facing down can bend the
pages. You can also pack books in one box using multiple methods.
Seal the boxes
Make sure to
fill any gaps in the boxes using wadded-up paper. Now, tape all the boxes and
label them the way you want. In case, you are using the used boxes, make sure
to cross all the previous markings.

your books safely to their final destination, put your trust in renowned Miami
